Today's Read
Compact 44-word board with one X-powered pangram and several repeated-letter extensions
Today's hive puts I in the center and keeps the answer set fairly compact at 44 verified words. Start by probing the IN-, TA-, and CA- families, because this board rewards repeated letters and one awkward X-powered pangram more than broad four-letter cleanup. If you get stuck, test whether a promising stem can grow into a longer -TIC, -ATE, or doubled-letter extension before you abandon it.

Work The Board Without Reveals
- IN- expansions: The richest lane starts with IN-. Short hits like INANE and INNIE grow into bigger scores such as INCANT, INCITE, INTACT, INTENT, INITIATE, and the pangram. Examples: inane, incite, initiate, inexact, intent.
- TA / TAC scoring branch: TA- is not just cleanup here. TACIT, TACTIC, and TACTICIAN create one of the clearest score ladders on the board. Examples: tacit, tactic, tactician, taint, taxi.
- Repeated-letter confidence: This puzzle keeps rewarding doubled letters. ATTIC, ATTAIN, INNATE, INNIE, NINETEEN, and TANNIN are all reminders not to reject a shape just because it repeats. Examples: attic, attain, innie, innate, nineteen.
- Use X early, not late: The X is not decorative. EXIT, EXCITE, EXTINCT, and the pangram show that X unlocks real scoring instead of a single oddball answer. Examples: exit, excite, extinct, inexact.
- CA / CAN stems pay off: CA- branches into both straightforward and longer words, so it is a productive place to test extensions before hunting isolated fours. Examples: cacti, canine, cantina, acacia.
Common Prefixes
IN-
IN- is the dominant opening family and produces both short footholds and several of the board's best scoring extensions.
Examples: inane, incite, innate, intact, inexact
TA-
TA- supports a strong medium-to-long ladder, especially once TAC- appears.
Examples: tacit, tactic, tactician, taint, tannic
CA-
CA- gives you multiple clean starts and helps unlock both common and less obvious accepted forms.
Examples: cacti, canine, cantina
Common Suffixes
-TIC
The TIC ending repeats across accepted words, so it is worth revisiting whenever a stem feels close.
Examples: antic, attic, acetic, tactic, tannic
-ITE
ITE is a productive finishing move on this board and bridges short answers to stronger scoring words.
Examples: cite, excite, incite, nite
-INE
INE endings show up in both short and medium answers, which makes them useful cleanup checks late in the solve.
Examples: inane, canine, nine, tine
Progressive Help
Pangram Hints
Pangram nudge
Look for a seven-letter answer that starts with IN- and ends with a crisp action-style finish.
Pangram shape
The pangram uses the board's X and keeps the center I in a compact INE- / -ACT frame.

- initiate8 pts
- extinct7 pts
- nineteen8 pts
- ancient7 pts
- ataxia6 pts
- tannic6 pts
- cantina7 pts
- titanic7 pts
Why these matter
- inexact
The lone pangram is compact and X-powered, so solving it quickly maps the whole board and gives the biggest early confidence swing.
- tactician
One of the highest-value long answers; once you see TACTIC, it is worth testing for a full extension instead of stopping there.
- initiate
A strong repeated-letter payoff that turns the IN- lane into a real score engine rather than a pile of short fillers.
- extinct
Important because it proves the X is part of a serious scoring branch, not just a single novelty answer.
- nineteen
The doubled N and repeated E/I structure makes it easy to overlook, but it is one of the cleaner long-word rewards on the board.
- ancient
Helpful because it ties the AN- / ANC- family together and opens the door to related medium-length solves.
- ataxia
A memorable oddball that rewards anyone willing to trust a medically familiar but visually awkward letter pattern.
Hard Finds
Tricky Accepted Words
- acai
Easy to skip because it is short, vowel-heavy, and less common than the obvious CA- options.
- ataxia
The repeated A plus X combination looks strange enough that many solvers will talk themselves out of it.
- innie
A good reminder that repeated I/N patterns are accepted on this board and matter for cleanup.
- niacin
Useful because it hides inside the NIA- cluster rather than the more obvious IN- lane.
- tinct
Looks incomplete at a glance, which is exactly why it is a strong late-board catch.
- acetic
Less flashy than the long words, but it reinforces the productive -TIC ending and the CA / AC crossover.
