BuzzyWords: Generate a Spelling Bee Word List

Want to get that Genius-level score without the genius-level work? Enter the letters from today's Spelling Bee (or other similar word game) below and we'll give you all the words we know that will fit the bill.

Simply enter the middle, required letter in the Required field, and all the other letters in the Allowed field.

Our dictionary has over 170,000 words, but not all the words we provide will necessarily be accepted by your game. You will still wind up with more than enough to get that top rank and look smart.

What is BuzzyWords?

BuzzyWords is a tool to help you expand your vocabulary and get better at different word games, including the Spelling Bee from the New York Times.

What makes this different from other word-finding tools?

Most of the tools out there operate on Scrabble rules (tiles that can only be used once, limiting word length) or Wordle rules (letters can repeat, words can include any letter not yet excluded, but all words must be 5 letters). That doesn't work for games like Spelling Bee.

With this tool, the letters you provide are the only ones that can be used, but there is no limit to the number of times you can use them. So we will return every word we know that is 4-letters or more and includes only the allowable letters (and definitely includes the key required letter), no matter how long. Our dictionary has words as long as 28 letters!

How many words do you know?

Lots. At last count, we had somewhere in the neighborhood of 200k. We didn't make our list, though! We recently switched to Wordnik's wordlist (available on Github), hoping to improve our suggestions with a well-curated list.

Is BuzzyWords available in other languages?

At this time, Buzzywords is English-only. Send us some feedback if you're interested in other languages, or word-finders for different games.

Yeah, we warned you about that up top. You're not penalized for bad entries in Spelling Bee - the game just rejects your word. So no harm, no foul, right? But don't worry, we're working on a tool that will let you mark which words are accepted and which are rejected. Coming soon...

What information are you storing from your users?

We don't store any information from you at this time. We don't even have a login system. We don't want your data, we just want to help you get better at word games.

Is this cheating?

Probably, yup. But if you're just playing a fun game against yourself, and you're using this site to expand your vocabulary, then it's more 'practice' than it is cheating.
